Balizen's capiz supply comes from a fishing village in Java, where their shell artisans sustainably harvest the shells and shape them. All parts of the capiz (jingle oyster) are used; the meat is used for food, the main part of the shell for handicraft, and the shell waste for fertilizer. Only full-grown shells are picked from the kelp beds, where they grow, which provides more space and food source for the young ones to grow. All their Capiz chimes are made with care in their fair trade, in-house workshop in Bali.
For over two decades, Balizen has been at the forefront of both the Fair Trade and sustainability movement. They create a unique line of ethical products for your home, and garden. Their designs are inspired by nature and the Zen traditions of craftsmanship, simplicity, harmony and the use of natural and eco-friendly materials.
Balizen has a deep respect for local artisans’ lifestyle, traditions and environment. We strive to maintain the spirit of compassion and the natural serendipity that occurs when one is doing something positive for the planet. We are proud members of the Fair Trade Federation and commit our time to working closely with local village communities to educate them on topics such as conservation, sustainable development and organic farming.
